Career History

Ena received her BSc and PhD in Biotechnology from Dublin City University and then undertook post-graduate research funded by the CNRF and Wellcome Trust in France and University College Cork, Ireland. Ena was formerly Director of Enterprise Ireland BIO which she joined in 2003.  In this role, she led a team to identify, fund, protect and exploit relevant Intellectual Property, commercialise life science technologies and review investment opportunities in R&D. Prior to Enterprise Ireland, Ena held various R&D and project management roles within Elan Corporation and had extensive involvement in licensing and acquisition projects over a 10-year period.  She has a broad background in international alliance and intellectual property management and across her various roles, has led rigorous due diligence projects on technologies and products within the Specialty Pharma, diagnostic, device and biotechnology areas.

Advisory /Committees

Ena has served on the board of Funding Agencies including SFI and HRB, she currently serves on the board of Fighting Blindness and TCD spin-out companies Genable Ltd and Trino Therapeutics. Ena is on the Board of the Irish BioIndustry Association and has been a member of several  Irish Government and EU taskforces as a specialist in commercialisation and intellectual property policy from 1999 . In 2007, Dublin City University awarded her an Inaugural Alumni Award for the Faculty of Science. In 2011, University College Dublin appointed Ena as an Adjunct Professor of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science.
